After the intensity of the Scorpio Full Moon, the New Moon in Taurus comes onto the horizon like a long, luxurious exhale. It marks the beginning of a time of rest and a bit of a lull in the energy after an eventful start of the year. Make the most of this grounded and replenishing quality of time before things pick up and intensify again in July!

If you’d like to bring in more material wealth and financial abundance, there is no better time for it than a Taurus New Moon. This year’s strong Aries energy has made us all reckon with our egos in some way or another, and this theme is still mirrored during the Mars/Chiron conjunction of this New Moon. What this brings, however, is more space to create a new personality - one that is more suited towards the level of prosperity that you truly desire.

Mirroring these themes, this issue’s practices are a lot more gentle than the last few, with a manifestation technique that offers a lot of fun and enjoyment in the process. We’ve done the hard work - the excavation of our deeply buried emotions, the reconfiguring of who we are and how we see ourselves. Now it’s time to rest and bask in the present moment.

Lots of love,

Chrissy

Key Astro dates for your calendar

May 16: A New Moon in Taurus offers one of the best opportunities in the year to set powerful intentions for material wealth and financial abundance, but there is a twist. With Mars conjunct Chiron in Aries, we may become all too painfully aware of where our ego has stood in the way of our goals or where we have been taking action that has taken us away from our path.

May 17: Mercury returns to its home sign of Gemini. Our minds speed up in this sign, thoughts become quicker and conversations livelier. It’s a perfect time for social outings and networking events as it’s just so much easier to connect with people (albeit on a superficial level).

May 18: Mercury conjuncts Uranus in Gemini, activating brilliant sparks of inspiration and genius insights. Pay close attention to new ideas or solutions that pop into your head seemingly out of nowhere today.

May 19: Mars enters Taurus and Venus enters Cancer today. Both our masculine and feminine energies now shift markedly. Mars in Taurus is more patient and less quick to anger than in Aries - but if pushed too far it becomes all too easy to see red. Venus in Cancer is a great time to (re)decorate your home or to connect with family - whether that’s your birth family or the people in your life that have taken on that role for you.

May 21: The Sun enters Gemini today but this year’s Gemini season could be a lot more eventful and interesting than usual with Uranus - the planet of disruption, innovation and sudden change - already waiting in this sign.

May 22: The Sun conjuncts Uranus just a day after it enters Gemini. There’s a chance of events unfolding that could forever change the way we think, especially around themes of communication, education and transport. Vesta conjuncts Neptune in Aries on the same day, giving birth to new dreams and ideals that have serious lasting power.

May 29: Ceres enters Gemini, ushering in a time where we nourish ourselves through intellectual stimulation. A great time to study something new, join a book club or prioritise conversations with friends and loved ones.

Working with the Moon

Taurus is the sign of the zodiac which rules financial wealth, material assets, luxury and the finer things in life. So there is no better time to set powerful intentions for material prosperity than a New Moon in Taurus.

The Full Moon at the start of the month invited us to go deep into the unconscious, to create space in our emotional container - and now we get to fill that space with all of the shiny glittery things that we desire.

This year, just a few minutes before the New Moon reaches its peak, Mars also conjuncts Chiron, the wounded healer, in Aries. Mars moves faster than Chiron, so he’s been inching closer for a while now and it’s an influence you have likely felt for days in the run up to the New Moon - if not weeks. The intensity with which everyone experiences this will of course vary. For some, it might be a mild irritation that they haven’t been able to shake, for others it could have been a full-blown ego triggered meltdown. Or perhaps you’ve just been questioning more often recently, what kind of person you truly are.

Regardless, there are some issues around ego, anger, assertiveness or our willingness to lead that are ready to be faced, acknowledged and ultimately healed under this New Moon. We are talking about Mars here, though, so this healing will not be passive. No waking up on Saturday morning gleefully exclaiming “I am healed!” I’m afraid. This is healing that requires some kind of action from you. A small - or big - act of courage that will allow you to see yourself in a new light. And from this new light, the prosperity and material security you may have been craving has a chance to emerge.

Some fun ways to celebrate this New Moon include:

  • Make an offering to nature, like seeds or fresh water.

  • Use patchouli or rose essential oil or incense.

  • Cook a meal with lots of fresh rosemary, thyme or basil.

  • Burn green or copper candles.

  • Meditate on an image of Venus/Aphrodite.

  • Carry an emerald, jade, rose quartz or moss agate crystal.

Manifesting with Astrology

A while ago we discussed the power of donating or gifting a part of your income as a way to send out a signal of material security and abundance to the universe. This strategy is part of the 10/10/10 rule. Taurus season, on the other hand, makes for a great time to look at another aspect of this rule - spending 10% of your income on something you consider to be a luxury.

This one might come quite easily to you, or it may feel like a challenge. Both overspending on luxuries or struggling with any purchases that feel frivolous can be indicators or a challenge with your sense of self-worth. Either way, the key is to become conscious and deliberate with this spending. To prioritise things that make you feel elevated, but without using them as a way to hide and cover up insecurities.

So, what constitutes a luxury? You might immediately think diamonds and designer bags and they absolutely count, but it doesn’t have to be anything quite so extravagant. Perhaps it’s a massage, or hiring a cleaner or babysitter so that you can spend some time reading a book in peace or doing something else that you enjoy. For many of us, free time can be a luxury!

Upgrades count, too. Let’s say you need new bedsheets and so they’re something you’re going to buy anyway. But instead of getting the usual ones you’d buy from Zara home or wherever you normally get your sheets, you decide to use your luxury budget to add to what you were going to spend anyway, and instead get sheets made from silk or Egyptian cotton.

Maybe you’re in a financial position where saving or paying off debt are higher priorities. That’s fine - 10% of your income is only a suggestion and you can tweak these percentages to suit your current position. I would, however, encourage you not to skip out on this technique altogether, because of the powerful effect it has on self-worth. It builds a sense of confidence that you deserve to have nice things - even if the nice thing is just the fancy jam with extra fruit instead of the supermarket own brand. This, in turn, makes you gradually more and more comfortable with receiving and living in prosperity, allowing you to magnetise more and more money, and thus more and more luxuries.

Journalling Prompts

During the Full Moon in Scorpio we dove deep within to take an honest look at what was buried, with the goal to empty out what has become stale, rancid and was no longer serving us.

Now we get the opportunity to fill all of that empty space with new intentions, new dreams and wishes - and we get to do this from a space of a healed ego.
